Rules on Baggage Handling under the Piece Concept Applied to all International and Regional Routes of Sichuan Airlines
Specific rules:
a. Baby passengers who do not take a
seat are allowed with one piece of freebaggage which is no heavier than
10kg (22bl) with the volume of such baggage (the sum of three sides) not
exceeding 115cm (45in.), and free baggage allowance for one fully folded
portable stroller or baby buggy.
b. The free baggage allowance for teams
is the same as that applied to individual travelers.
c. If two (included) or more passengers
on the same flight to the same destination check in baggage in the same place
and at the same time, the free baggage allowance may be consolidated and
calculated as per the class of segments purchased by the passengers.
d. For any domestic leg being a part of
an international route, the free baggage allowance of each passenger may be calculated
as per applicable free baggage allowance for such international route.
Where the domestic ticket and international ticket are separate (i.e. the
domestic leg is not subject to the continuity of an international ticket), such
leg shall not be deemed as an integral part of the international route, and the
free baggage allowance of the passenger shall separately apply to those of the
domestic leg and the international flight.
e. Passengers purchasing mixed class
tickets shall enjoy the free baggage allowances separately specified for each
class of such leg.
f. Where the passenger voluntarily
changes the class of segment, the free baggage allowance shall be subject to
the lately purchased ticket; where the passenger involuntarily changes the
class of segment, the free baggage allowance shall be subject to the original
ticket.
g. In case of midway stopovers, the
free baggage allowance for the entire journey shall be subject to the higher
free baggage allowable that is available under such circumstance.
h. Where the flight of the main leg is
a code-sharing flight of Sichuan Airlines, the free baggage allowance shall be
subject to rules of the actual carrier.
i. The free baggage allowance for
special passengers including students, workers, sailors, etc. shall be subject
to respective fares.

Excess luggage fees of international/regional routes
1. Excess baggage means the passenger baggage weighing in excess of the allowed amount, for which the excess baggage fees shall be paid.
2. Baggage receipts shall be issued for excess baggage when such fees are charged.
3. The charging for excess baggage shall be calculated in an accumulative manner separately as per the number of piece, weight and size in the excess.

Volume and weight limits for checked baggage
1. Volume limit for checked baggage
Checked baggage shall be subject to local regulations on volume limit. Where no specific regulations are available, the sum of three sides of a single item of checked baggage shall not exceed 300cm (118in.).
Baggage exceeding the aforesaid volume limit shall be transported as cargo.
2. Weight limit for checked baggage
For routes to and from the U.K. or the Commonwealth nations (e.g. Canada, Australia, etc.), maximum weight of checked baggage per item shall not exceed 32kg (70lb).
Baggage on other routes shall be subject to local regulations. Where no specific regulations are available, maximum weight of checked baggage per item shall not exceed 45kg (100lb).
Baggage exceeding the aforesaid weight limit shall be transported as cargo.
International/regional unchecked baggage
Each first-class passenger can carry along two pieces of portable baggage. Each business-class or economy-class passenger can only carry along one piece of portable baggage. Each piece of portable baggage shall not weigh in excess of 5kg. The sum of three sides of the baggage shall not exceed 115cm (20×40×55cm). In addition, maximum single-side size of the baggage shall not exceed 56cm (length), 45cm (width) and 25cm (height) (including the hand roller, lock and outer edges), which shall be capable of being put in the storage bins or under the seats.
Passengers taking Sichuan Airlines’ flights, in addition to the free baggage allowance, can carry along the following private articles that are under their own care and only for purposes of getting on/off the plane or during the flight with no additional fees required.

Large baggage:
Some extra-large items (e.g. exquisite musical instruments) are not suitable for being transported in the cargo bin as checked baggage. Passengers shall obtain prior approval from Sichuan Airlines and associated carriers and pay the fees for such purpose before carrying such baggage into the passenger cabin as baggage occupying a seat, which shall be put under custody and care of the passenger himself.
Passengers’ checked and unchecked baggage shall be subject to weighing or counting by Sichuan Airlines when checking in at the airport. The specific weight and number of piece of baggage shall be filled in “passenger ticket and baggage ticket” column (in case of a paper ticket). During transport, the checked baggage is under the custody of Sichuan Airlines while the unchecked baggage is under the care of the passenger.
Declared value of baggage
(1) General rules
a. Passengers may, when the value of their checked baggage exceeds USD 30/kg (or in other equivalent currencies), declare value for their baggage and pay additional fees for such purpose.
b. The declared value of a piece of checked baggage shall never exceed its actual value.
c. No value shall be declared for small animals consigned by passengers.
d. Sichuan Airlines will charge additional fees for the part of declared value exceeding the prescribed limit in 4.6 (1)a.
(2) When a certain section of transport of a piece of baggage with its value declared is undertaken by any other carrier who does not provide the service of value declaration, Sichuan Airlines shall have the right to refuse to provide the aforesaid service of baggage value declaration.
(3) Where the declared value of a piece of baggage exceeds the limit of USD 5000 (or of equivalent value in other currencies), Sichuan Airlines shall have the right to reject such baggage.
Rules and charging rates for special baggage transport
Consignment of alcoholic beverage (limits on concentration and quantity)
v Where alcoholic concentration is equal to or lower than 24º, the quantity of checked baggage per passenger may not be subject to any limitation, and the focus shall be laid on the compliance of package of such baggage.
v Where alcoholic concentration is greater than 24º and equal to or lower than 70º, consignment shall be subject to following limits:
— Each container shall be limited to 5L at the most;
— The total net quantity carried by each person shall be limited to 5L;
— Where alcoholic concentration is greater than 24º and equal to or lower than 60º, the consignment limit for each flight shall be 2,000kg;
— Where alcoholic concentration is greater than 60º and equal to or lower than 70º, the consignment limit for each flight shall be 200kg.
v Alcoholic beverage having an alcoholic concentration greater than 70º falls into the category of hazardous goods for air transportation and shall be rejected.
Transportation rules for bikes
- Bikes shall only be transported as checked baggage. Each passenger only has the free baggage allowance for one bike. Excessive bikes will be charged as ordinary excess baggage;
- Bikes herein refer to single-seat or racing bikes and exclude electric bikes. Tires shall be deflated prior to transportation;
- Non-foldable bikes shall have the handle bar turned 90º and pedals disassembled, if necessary, wheels removed and securely tied to the body before transportation;
- Foldable bikes shall be folded up and tied up securely before transportation.
Charges for skiing gear
- Skiing gear can only be transported as checked baggage. The free baggage allowance of each passenger only contains one set of skiing gear. The first set of skiing gear in excess of the free baggage allowance shall be charged as per 33% of the prescribed charging rate while the rest shall be charged as ordinary excess baggage;
- One complete skiing gear shall include:
v One sled bag and one snow boots bag, containing at the most one pair of skis, one pair of skiing poles and one pair of snow boots; or
v One skiing board bag and one snow boots bag, containing at the most one skiing board and one pair of snow boots.
- Items not included in aforesaid scope shall not be subject to such preferential rates.
- No baggage value declaration shall be granted for skiing apparatus not packaged in a hard edge case.
Charges for golf accessories
- Golf accessories shall only be transported as checked baggage. The free baggage allowance of each passenger only contains one set of golf accessories. The first set of golf accessories in excess of the free baggage allowance shall be charged as per 50% of the prescribed charging rate while the rest shall be charged as ordinary excess baggage;
- A complete set of golf accessories shall include a set of golf clubs, a pair of golf shoes and a golf ball bag containing several balls.
- Items not included in aforesaid scope shall not be subject to such preferential rates.
- No baggage value declaration shall be granted for golf accessories not packaged in a hard edge case.
Charges for fishing gear
- Fishing gear shall only be transported as checked baggage. Each passenger only has the free baggage allowance for one set of fishing gear. Excessive fishing gear will be charged as ordinary excess baggage.
- A complete set of fishing gear shall include 2 fishing poles, one reel, one fishnet, one pair of fishing boots and one toolbox; (Fishing poles, basket and boots shall be contained in a robust hard-cover vessel.)
- The sum of three sides of the vessel containing fishing poles shall not exceed 158cm (62in.), otherwise the vessel shall be transported as cargo;
- Passengers shall sign on a disclaimer of interest when consigning fishing gear.
- No baggage value declaration shall be granted to fishing gear that is not contained in specially made hard-cover vessels.
Charges for water-skiing gear (aquaplane package)
- Water-skiing gear shall only be transported as checked baggage. The free baggage allowance of each passenger only contains one set of water-skiing gear (consisting of two aquaplanes at the most). The first set of water-skiing gear in excess of the free baggage allowance shall be charged as per 33% of the prescribed charging rate while the rest shall be charged as ordinary excess baggage;
- Each aquaplane shall not exceed 107cm (43in.) in length, otherwise they shall be transported as cargo;
- Passengers shall sign on a disclaimer of interest when consigning water-skiing gear, for which no baggage value declaration shall be granted.
Charges for surfboard (windsurfing gear)
- Surfboard shall only be transported as checked baggage and excluded from the free baggage allowance. The first set of surfboard consigned by a passenger shall be charged as per 50% of the prescribed charging rate and the rest shall be charged as ordinary excess baggage;
- A set of surfboard shall have an overall dimension (L+W+H) less than 277cm (109in.) including the mast, the arm and the sail). Each surfboard to be transported shall be placed in a robust hard-cover vessel specially designed for such purpose;
- Passengers shall sign on a disclaimer of interest when consigning surfboard gear.
- No baggage value declaration shall be granted to surfboards that are not contained in specially made hard-cover vessels.
Charges for bowling equipment
- Bowling shall only be transported as checked baggage. Each passenger only has the free baggage allowance for one set of bowling equipment. Excessive bowling equipment will be charged as ordinary excess baggage.
- A complete set of bowling equipment shall include a ball bag that contains at the most 3 balls and one pair of bowling shoes;
*Bowling ball cleanser will be rejected as hazardous article for airplane transportation when the content of alcohol exceeds 70% (by volume).
Rules for transportation of live animals
Live animals shall meet the following conditions when transported as checked baggage:
1. Valid health certificate (usually the immunization record for rabies);
2. Certificate of inspection and quarantine issued by animal and plant inspection and quarantine authorities (usually the certificate of inspection and disinfection of live animals and packages);
3. Documentary requirements for the transportation of live animals of countries on the route (entrance/exist permit or transit permit, etc.). Please refer to the latest TRAVEL INFORMATION MANUAL for documentary requirements of different countries and regions for the entrance and exit of live animals.
Packaging requirements:
1. Live animals (pets) shall be transported in a single cage not exceeding 45kg for international flights (32kg for flights to the Commonwealth nations such as Canada, Australia, etc.), otherwise they shall be transported as cargo.
2. Live animals consigned by passengers shall be transported in a single cage not exceeding 40×60×100cm and not smaller than 5×15×20cm, otherwise they shall be transported as cargo.
3. Live animals shall be transported in specially made and robust metal, hard-plastic or wooden containers so as to:
I. Prevent live animals to damage and escape from the containers and get in touch with passengers, baggage and cargos;
II. Ensure good ventilation and avoid suffocation of animals;
III. Maintain good adaptability to width and height of the aircraft door;
IV Easily feed the animals with food and water and provide them with space for standing and movement;
V. Prevent leakage of animal waste from the bottom, which will contaminate on-board equipment and other articles.
Note: Where special provisions are made by terminals on the packaging of live animals in transportation and stricter than those applied by Sichuan Airlines, such higher requirements shall be satisfied accordingly.
Charging standard:
Passengers shall hand over live animals as well as their containers and food to Sichuan Airlines for transportation, and pay twice the price of excess baggage. Animals, containers and food shall be weighed as a whole and excluded from the free baggage allowance of passengers.
Note: Guide dogs or hearing dogs assisting passengers with auditory or visual defect, together with their containers and food, may be transported for free and excluded from the free baggage allowance of passengers.
— No value declaration shall be granted to live animals (including guide dogs, hearing dogs, etc.).
Where there is any discrepancy between such transportation rules and provisions of local customs and inspection and quarantine authorities, the latter shall prevail.
